WELCOME to the new Cullompton Community Centre
Iain Duncan Smith, Secretary of State officially opens Centre
Iain Duncan Smith, officially opened the Centre during a whistlestop tour on May 4th. The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and founder of the Centre for Social Justice was very impressed with the building and the team of volunteers who spent five years making this project come to fruition. He said: "This Centre is very much what we mean by the Big Society...people coming together through their family, community, through churches, to decide what to improve and to be involved with it and to work with the State in this. Congratulations to everybody who raised the money, for the leadership, to the architects for the intriguing design and to the builders for not building a straight line in the place!"
He said his parents lived nearby and he understood the difficulties of rural communities. Mr Duncan Smith said he would be taking the story of the Cullompton Community Centre to other communities.
The Centre is a modern meeting place in the heart of Cullompton, with plenty of parking and easy accessibility, and is available for hire by commercial and charitable organisations.
We were featured on the BBC's Spotlight news when we first opened our doors last December, with a very positive report and film, including a great bird's eye shot of the Centre from the church tower.
You're very welcome to come and look around and meet our new Centre manager Steve Alcock and administrator Georgina Kerslake, pictured below. We are open Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.
